MONTEREY Two adult men could have learned a lesson Tuesday night from the classroom rules that governed the 5- and 6-year-olds graduating on stage before them.

Now both adults are facing charges after their fight and attempted stabbings interrupted the kindergarten graduation ceremony Tuesday evening at Monterey School.

The two men began fighting after one got angry with the other for waving at his child, said Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy David Hedrick. The apparent current boyfriend of the child’s mother approached the child’s father during the ceremony, and the two men began exchanging blows.

William J. Lungrin Jr. and Wesley Cole Rabb began fighting during the middle of the ceremony, Hedrick said, after Rabb allegedly waved to his child who was walking across the stage to accept a diploma.

“They took a few swings at each other and then a knife got pulled,” Hedrick said.

CPSO Deputy Mike Clark, who was the arresting officer of the case, said Rabb pulled a knife on Lungrin and swung the knife a couple of times attempting to stab Lungrin.

A video of the incident taken by a parent at the graduation ceremony shows Lungrin walking up to Rabb and bumping into each other directly in front of the stage where the students are standing. Rabb takes a swing at Lungrin first, before Lungrin lands a punch in return on Rabb. Moments later, Rabb pulls a knife out and attempts to stab Lungrin.

“Rabb ran off after he didn’t stab (Lungrin) and took off out the back door,” Clark said. “(Lungrin) didn’t get cut at all, but they each got some hits in on each other.”

Lungrin, 39, 301 Jason Patrick Road, Senatobia, was arrested after the incident and charged with disturbing the peace by fighting.

Clark said Wednesday evening warrants for Rabb’s arrest, which included charges of disturbing the peace by fighting and aggravated assault, were being prepared.

Sherriff Kenneth Hedrick said he was appalled at the behavior of the two suspects.

“We will not tolerate behavior like this, especially when it happens in our school system around children,” Sheriff Hedrick said. “These suspects are being charged and will be held accountable for their actions.”
