Ferriday — Josh Loy officially became the new head football coach at Delta Charter School this week.
The former Trinity Episcopal Day School coach said he received a phone call from members of the Delta Charter school board this week informing him he received the position.
Loy said he applied for the job because it will be a new challenge for him.
“It was an intriguing job for me being able to build something from the ground up and start my own traditions,” Loy said. “I get to see these kids from a young age all the way up to high school.”
Loy will coach a junior high team and a high school junior varsity team in the fall before starting a varsity team in 2015.
Loy said it would take patience going from a perfect 16-0 record and state championship at Trinity, to starting anew with young players.
“I’m definitely going to have to have patience,” Loy said. “It’s a building deal. It’s something that’s not going to be done in a year, it’s going to be a process. But I think it could be special.”
Loy said the Delta Charter football team would start summer workouts on June 2.
“We’re in the process of getting our weight room together, even if it’s not available by June 2, we will still be doing some agility and core workouts,” Loy said. “We’re ready to get to work.”
Loy will also be a physical education teacher at Delta Charter, and he said he is ready to be a part of a growing program.
“I am excited to be at a school with an administrator and a board that value the importance of a top notch education along with a successful athletic program,” Loy said.
Delta Charter opened this year at the former site of Huntington School in Ferriday.
