NATCHEZ — Duncan Park Golf Course director Greg Brooking is prepping the course for the Norman Pickett Junior Golf Clinic Monday and is expecting a few heavy hitters to be in attendance.
Nationally ranked PGA junior golf teacher Jimmy Hedricks and LPGA Class A professional golfer Lee Burke have agreed to come to Natchez to teach area children a few things about golf.
Brooking said children could learn a lot from the two professionals as they share tips and experience.
“These two pros have the best credentials as far as teaching junior golf,” Brooking said. “That’s what I’m excited about.”
Brooking said the camp would be from 8:30 to 10 a.m. for 6-12 year olds, and 10:30 a.m. to noon for 13-17 year olds starting Monday.
“We will have the clinic every Monday and let the (children) practice throughout the week and come back the next Monday to learn something more,” Brooking said. “Then we always have a tournament at the end of the four weeks to get some competition going, but it’s fun for the kids.”
Burke said she looks forward to sharing her experience and love for the game with the children.
“I want to tell them how great the game is and learning about the game and the integrity of it is amazing,” Burke said. ;”It’s something you can do for your entire life. It’s really important for them to understand the greatness of the game.”
Burke said she would attend the clinic each Monday.
Hedricks, however, has committed to attending the first session, but said he plans to make it count.
“My goal is to see them get excited about golf and want to play it throughout their lives,” Hedricks said. “We will start with the basics of how to hold a golf club, the proper posture and basic swings. Once you get them started down the right path, they really move on quickly.”
Brooking said registration for the clinic is $15 per child until the last session on June 30.
