Tom Matthews scramble set for Saturday

NATCHEZ — The second annual Tom Matthews tournament begins this Saturday at the Beau Pre’ Country Club.
The two-man, two-day golf scramble was previously called the Wharlest Jackson scramble and was correlated by Matthews. Following the death of Matthews, the tournament was renamed in his honor last year.
The turnout last year didn’t disappoint, food and beverage coordinator Lesley Whitehead said. With 32 teams already signed up and limited spots still available, Whitehead expects an even better turnout this weekend.
“Last year was wonderful, and we had a lot of people from south Louisiana come and play golf and enjoy our great fish fry,” Whitehead said. “We’re almost at capacity going into the tournament this year. We might fill up the playing field.”
The tournament, which generates scholarships for high school golfers aspiring to play golf at the next level, will feature lunch both days, including a fish fry Saturday, prizes for everyone entered and 36 holes of golf.
The event begins with a check in followed by lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Round one will follow at 1 p.m., and a fish fry will proceed at 7 p.m.
The final round will start with a shotgun tee time at 9 a.m. Sunday.
A few spots are still available for the 36-team limit scramble. Entry fees are $100 per Beau Pre’ member and $150 for a guest.
Those wanting to sign up may do so by visiting Beau Pre’ or by emailing natchezgolf@gmail.com.
