NATCHEZ — Charlie H. Brown was known as a man who energetically tackled all aspects of his life.
Brown died Thursday at Promise Rehab Hospital. He was 86.
In 1989, Brown became the first administrator of Adams County, and the county operated under his careful budgeting for 17 years.
He was thought of highly by the people he worked with, and he was meticulous when handling county affairs, said Darryl Grennell, current Adams County Board of Supervisors president.
The level of dedication to the county, Grennell said, was only matched with the amount of energy and honesty that he brought into his personal life.
“If he was excited about something, you’d know he was excited about something,” Grennell said. “There was nothing fake about him.”
Grennell said Brown was always excited about what he was doing, and Brown was always honest in every situation.
Brown was a jazz enthusiast and an Ole Miss fan that was always able to keep up the end of his conversation.
“He was a complete pleasure,” said Samuel Cauthen, former district 1 Supervisor. “He could take some jokes, and he could put out some jokes.”
Brown brought as much energy when talking about his children and grandchildren.
“He always cared about people,” said Angela Hutchins, District 3 Supervisor. “You would hear him talk about how much he cares about people, his family, his granddaughter.”
Brown was part of the Ole Miss Alumni Association, a supporter of the Natchez-Adams County Humane Society, the Natchez Football Foundation and the Santa Clause Committee.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church.
