Mildred Bacon Johnson

NATCHEZ — Funeral services for Mildred Bacon Johnson, 94, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at Promise Hospital in Vidalia, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mark Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Stanton officiating.

Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of R.D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home.

Mildred was born Dec. 11, 1919, in Natchez, the daughter of Hannah Washington Bacon and David French Bacon Sr.

Ms. Johnson graduated in the Brumfield High School class of 1941 and also attended Alcorn College and Jackson State.

She was a retired educator with the Natchez-Adams County public schools, with most of her service spent at Central Elementary in Washington. She was a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the National Association of Democratic Women and the Adams County Retired Teachers’ Association.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Edrena Davis, Evelyn Bacon and Beatrice Bacon O’Banion, and one brother, David Bacon Jr.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
