VIDALIA — The Concordia Parish 10 year olds are developing a knack for slow starts in the Louisiana District 5 10-year-old All-Star Tournament, and after a second-straight rally while facing elimination, the all-stars will stay alive after a 15-8 victory against Delhi.

After scoring eight runs in the eighth inning to avoid elimination Sunday night, the Concordia Parish all-stars found themselves in a similar situation Monday night — down two runs late in the game on the brink of elimination.

Head coach Justin Gregg said his team had to settle down after giving up a six-run inning in the second before Concordia Parish eventually found its groove.

“They’re slow to get started,” Gregg said. “We finally got fired up and everybody hit the ball like we’re used to hitting.”

Concordia Parish tied up the game 6-6 in the fourth after a three-run inning, sparked by an RBI-single by Xander Harveston.

Delhi would answer, adding two runs in the top of the fifth.

After Concordia Parish’s Tyler Gregg reached on an error and Garren Patt lined a single, Adam Eames stepped to the plate with his team down 8-6.

Eames reared back and drove a liner in the gap of right field. The ball rolled to the fence as Eames rounded base after base. Before Eames knew it, he was crossing home plate for an inside the park home run that gave Concordia Parish a 9-8 lead.

Eames knew he was going to score after he rounded second.

“About when it hit the fence,” Eames said. “It felt awesome.”

Justin clapped his hands and cheered his team on, ecstatic that his 10 year olds were able to pull through in the clutch for the second night in a row.

“Thank goodness,” Gregg said. “(Eames) did that for us in league play a lot. He’s so fast. And then Ty Ty Milligan scored right behind him.”

Milligan followed right behind him with a triple and advancement to home on an errant throw.

Patt added an exclamation point to the inning with a 2-RBI triple, extending Concordia Parish’s lead to 15-8.

In the final inning, Concordia Parish’s Trace Miller, who relieved Preston Higgins in the fourth, shutout Delhi to give Concordia Parish the victory.

Miller earned the victory for Concordia Parish, while Kayne Ramero drew the loss for Delhi.

Concordia Parish will play East Ouachita 6 p.m. tonight.
