Local Dixie Youth teams off to good start

ELLISVILLE — The Natchez-Adams Girls Softball 11- and 12-year old All-Stars needed just five innings to defeat the Sebastopol All-Stars 14-1 Friday afternoon in the opener of the Mississippi Dixie Softball Ponytail Traditional State Tournament.
Winning pitcher Carleigh Sproulls got the start for Natchez and pitched three solid innings. She also had two hits, including a home run. Drue Boyd pitched a scoreless fourth inning and Za’Nya Lyles pitched a scoreless fifth inning.
Jayde Haller also had a home run to go with two singles while Candi Gray had a single and a double for Natchez, which scored three runs in the top of the first, third and fourth innings and five runs in the top of the fifth. Boyd, Alyssa McIntosh and Katie Wilson had two singles each.
The Natchez-Adams Girls Softball 11-12 All-Stars, 1-0 in this round-robin tournament, will take on Copiah County today at 4 p.m.
Natchez 6-and-under All-Stars 21,
Saucier All-Stars 6
ELLISVILLE — The Natchez-Adams Girls Softball 6-and-under All-Stars got off to a good start at the state tournament as they routed the Saucier All-Stars 21-6 in four innings Friday night.
“They played good defense. They hit the ball well,” Natchez 6-and-under coach Brian Fisher said. No other information on the game was available.
The Natchez-Adams Girls Softball 6-and-under All-Stars will take on St. Martin at 12:30 p.m. today in a winners’ bracket game.
Taylorsville All-Stars 22,
Natchez 9-10 All-Stars 2
MAGEE — The Natchez-Adams Girls Softball 9- and 10-year-old All-Stars could not get over the jitters of playing in their first-ever state tournament game as they lost to the Taylorsville All-Stars 22-2 in three innings Friday afternoon in the Mississippi Dixie Softball Angels Traditional State Tournament.
“They were just to nervous. We had too many errors. We just couldn’t get out of the first inning,” Natchez 9-10s coach David Brown said. “They scored 18 runs in the first inning. After that, we settled down and played some good ball. But it was way too late. We had only three hits.”
The Natchez-Adams Girls Softball 9-10 All-Stars will take on the winner of the game between West Jasper and the loser of Friday night’s game between Magee and Bay St. Louis at 6 p.m. today in a losers’ bracket contest.
East Central All-Stars 9,
Natchez 7-8 All-Stars 5
ELLISVILLE — The Natchez-Adams Girls Softball 7- and 8-year-old Coach Pitch All-Stars could not come up with the key hits when they needed them as they lost to the defending state champion East Central All-Stars 9-5 Friday afternoon at the Mississippi Dixie Softball Darlings State Tournament.
Kay-Lee Ashley and Christian Jones led Natchez at the plate as each of them was 2-for-2 with a double. Addison Jackson and Saniyah Moore each went 2-for-2 and Blair Rutland drove in two runs.
The Natchez 7-8 Coach Pitch All-Stars will take on the loser of the Indianola/Columbia game today at 9:15 a.m. in an elimination game.
