Concordia Dixie Youth splits games

SHREVEPORT, La. — The Concordia Dixie Youth 11-year-old All-Stars split a pair of games Saturday afternoon at the Louisiana Dixie Youth O-Zone State Tournament.
In the first game of the day, the Concordia 11s cruised to a 13-2 win over the Tioga All-Stars. Eli Brown went one and one-third innings before being relieved by Matthew Parnham, who went the final two and two-thirds innings.
Rhett McDonald had a home run while Brown went 3-for-3, and Brett Walsworth and Dylan LaPrairie both were 2-for-3 as Concordia amassed 17 total hits.
The second game, which had a lengthy weather delay, ended in heartbreak for the Concordia 11s as the host Shreveport All-Stars rallied in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 10-9 win.
Caleb Smith pitched two innings and held Shreveport to just two runs, both in the bottom of the first inning. McDonald gave up four runs in the bottom of the third inning after Concordia scored four runs in the top of the third to take a 6-2 lead.
Then, Concordia scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning for a 9-6 lead. Drew Brown came in to pitch the bottom of the fourth, but Shreveport got to him quickly and he was relieved by Peyton Fort.
Shreveport ended up scoring four runs to get the win. Fort was charged with the loss.
The Concordia Dixie Youth 11-year-old All-Stars will take on JPRD at 1 p.m. today. The winner of that game will play again at 3 p.m. for first and second place. The top three teams will advance to the O-Zone Regional World Series in Longview, Texas from July 25 to 28.
