NATCHEZ — The Mississippi Ducks Unlimited State Convention will come to Natchez for the first time since 2011 this Friday.
On Friday and Saturday, Ducks Unlimited will invade the Natchez Community Center, for award banquets, social events and auctions.
Ducks Unlimited, which is a North American non-profit organization that uses its money to preserve wetlands and increase the number of ducks in North America, will feature a fish fry at 6 p.m. Friday followed by duck bingo and a Baggo tournament.
“That’s what we call the bean bag toss,” said state chairmen David Victory.
A dinner banquet and live auction will commence at the convention center at 6 p.m. Saturday. There, awards will be handed out to the district chairman of the year, the volunteer of the year and the committee of the year. Ducks Unlimited merchandise, such as decoys, guns, prints and art will be auctioned at the event.
Donations for the banquet will be used to conserve more land. The non-profit organization has conserved more than 13-million plus acres of waterfowl habitats, and Victory has his eyes set on adding another 100,000 acres nationwide in 2014.
“Our objective in 2014 was to conserve 100,000 acres, and our goal in Mississippi is to raise $1 million,” Victory said. “Last year, we actually spent $3.2 million in the state, so we’re actually putting more back in.”
Those wanting to attend may do so by registering online at http://www.ducks.org/mississipepi/events/33202/mississippi-ducks-unlimited-state-convention-natchez-ms for $100. Students may register for $35.
