JONESVILLE — A woman and child from Ferriday were injured in a wreck that killed two other people Monday afternoon.
The Louisiana State Police responded to the accident near the intersection of Louisiana 28 East and U.S. 84 at approximately 12:45 p.m. Monday, according to a news release from the LSP.
The wreck occurred when Margie Moore, 72, of Columbia, apparently failed to observe that westbound traffic was slowing and — in an effort to avoid a rear-end collision — swerved her 1995 Ford pickup into the eastbound lane, according to the LSP.
The vehicle collided with a 2010 Cadillac DTS driven by Judith Hewitt, 68, of Ferriday, that was traveling eastbound.
Moore and her passenger, Bluith Moore, 83, were wearing seat belts but were killed in the collision.
Hewitt and her passenger, an 8-year-old female from Ferriday, both received moderate to severe injuries and were transported to Rapides Regional Trauma Center for treatment, according to the LSP.
The crash remains under investigation, and routine toxicology tests are pending.
