SULPHUR, La. — The third and final game of the best-of-three state tournament finals did not turn out well for the Concordia Parish 14-year-old tournament team as it lost to Monroe 7-0 Wednesday morning.
Concordia Parish had a rough game against Monroe’s pitcher, finishing with just one hit – a single by Landon Havard. Head coach Jarrett Hoffpauir credited the opposing pitcher for keeping his batters guessing.
“Their pitcher pitched well against us. They did a good job of getting our first hitter out of the inning,” Hoffpauir said. “We just couldn’t get anything started.
Even though Monroe did not score a lot of runs in one particular inning, once it got on the scoreboard it kept slowly adding to its lead.
“They swung the bats well,” Hoffpauir said. Just a solid team all the way around. One through 13, everyone was solid. They jumped on us early. They scored one or two runs an inning. They just kept pressuring us. I’m just proud of the kids. We just ran out of gas.”
Despite the loss, the Concordia Parish 14-year-old team’s season is not over just yet. They will play in the World Series in Bossier City, La. Hoffpauir said he does not know when that begins.
