NATCHEZ — A local man was killed early Monday morning after he was  run over by a vehicle operated by an apparently intoxicated acquaintance.

Adams County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded at approximately 3 a.m. to 99 Cloverdale Road, where Kory DeWitt, 25, was pronounced dead at the scene, an ACSO spokesperson said.

DeWitt had reportedly been in the vehicle with Alyssa Brooke Standeford, 25, 37B Cloverdale Road, but had gotten out of the vehicle so she could park it upon arrival, the spokesperson said.

Standeford reportedly told ACSO investigators she had not realized DeWitt was in the way as she was parking and did not realize she had run over him until she heard him yelling as he was pinned under the car, the spokesperson said.

Standeford was the person who called for help, and reportedly told investigators she was under the influence of Xanax and Lorcet at the time.

Standeford was charged with DUI culpable negligence manslaughter and driving under suspension.

She was detained on a $75,000 bond.

Adams County Coroner James Lee took possession of DeWitt’s body at the scene.
