Trinity to play in three-team district

NATCHEZ — Following Tallulah Academy’s announcement last week that the team was switching to eight-man football in 2014, the Trinity Saints will compete in a three-team district.

The three-team race in District 4-A will come down to Porter’s Chapel, Wilkinson County Christian Academy and Trinity.

Trinity head coach Zach Rogel said the change equates to an easier playoff berth with one less team in the district, but he would have liked to play Tallulah Academy.

“It makes our chances easier, but that was supposed to be our senior night on the last game of the year,” Rogel said. “Hopefully, we’ll have a strong enough playoff push by then if we aren’t able to replace them on the schedule.”

The void Tallulah Academy left in Trinity’s schedule forced head coach Zach Rogel to move senior night to Oct. 3 against WCCA and make the Sept. 26 date against Bowling Green Homecoming.

Rogel said he’s currently looking to replace Tallulah on the schedule, and if he’s unable to, he will use the Oct. 24 date as an extra week to prepare for the playoffs, should the team get in.

“We want to replace them, but if not, at least, it will give us an extra week to get ready,” Rogel said.
