Jeff and Dorothy Ames of Vidalia announce the engagement of their daughter, Joan Elizabeth Ames to Nicholas Cole Herring, son of Allie LaBorde and the late Phillip LaBorde of Vidalia.

The bride-to-be is a graduate of Vidalia High School, a graduate of Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Natchez and a graduate of Central Louisiana Technical Community College in Ferriday.

She is employed by Benoist Law Office in Natchez.

She is the granddaughter of Jerry Lee Smith and the late Joan Moberley Smith of Vidalia and Mattie Ames and the late J.D. Ames of Monterey.

The groom-to-be is a graduate of Adams County Christian School in Natchez and is a graduate of Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Natchez.

He is employed by Chevron in Abbeville, La.

The wedding will be at 6 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014, at Stanton Hall in Natchez.

A reception will follow at the Carriage House.
