NATCHEZ — Services for Claudia Martinez Hobdy, 95, of Natchez, who died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014, at her residence, will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Mary Basilica with the Rev. David O’Connor officiating.

Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time today at the church.

Mrs. Hobdy was born Jan. 5, 1919, in Bogalusa, La., the daughter of Sebastian Edwin Martinez and Verina Cecilia Gauthreaux Martinez.

Mrs. Hobdy was a member of St. Mary Basilica, Pilgrimage Garden Club, Progressive Study Club, Civic and Welfare Club and Junior Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Braxton T. Hobdy Sr.; and two brothers, James R. Martinez and S. Edwin Martinez Jr.

Survivors include three children, Lynda H. Doughty, Braxton T. Hobdy Jr., and wife, Carol, all of Natchez, and G. Gregory Hobdy and wife, Dora, of Hattiesburg; four grandchildren, Walter A. Doughty III, Michael Darin Doughty and wife, Shannon, Braxton Tate Hobdy III and Patrick Ingram; three great-grandchildren, Austin Doughty, Mollie Burts and Eric James; one sister, Jaznette Ellis of Mobile, Ala.; one sister-in-law, Vanice Martinez; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Tate Hobdy, Austin Doughty, John Holyoak, Billy Roberts, Ronnie Harper and Darin Doughty.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Kenneth Stubbs, his staff, and her caregivers, Valerie Brady and Linda Blanton.
