NATCHEZ — Natchez police are looking for a 25-year-old man who allegedly shot a woman in the shoulder earlier today in the parking lot of Daisy Street Grocery.
Natchez Police Department Sgt. Ben Hewitt said officers responded to a call of a shooting at 1:19 p.m. at the general store and found Ashley Williams, 28, of Natchez, on the ground with blood on her left shoulder.
Williams told officers that a Natchez man she knew walked up behind her and shot her in the right shoulder with a small caliber handgun.
“She told us he went through her pockets after she was shot, but we haven’t determined if anything is missing at this point,” Hewitt said. “He fled on foot from there, and we’ll still currently pursing him.”
Hewitt declined to name the suspect NPD investigators believed was involved in the shooting.
Williams was transported by ambulance to Natchez Community Hospital, and Hewitt said doctors were discussing the need for a possible transfer to University Medical Center in Jackson.
Hewitt said the suspect is facing charges of aggravated assault and robbery.
“We’re fairly certain he’s still in town,” Hewitt said.
Anyone with information about Friday’s shooting can call Crime Stoppers at 601-442-5000. Crime Stoppers offers a reward of up to $1,000 for tips leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect.
