CLINTON — Adams County Christian School amped up its physical play Friday night, while Natchez High School found some bright spots to build around in a loss at Hazelhurst.

ACCS head coach David King was pleased with the effort and intensity the Rebels brought with them Friday afternoon at the Central Hinds Academy Jamboree against Raymond High School and Northpoint Christian School at Robinson-Hale Stadium on the campus of Mississippi College.

In their first game of the day, the Rebels shut out the MHSAA Class 4A Raymond Rangers 12-0. Lester Wells accounted for both touchdown receptions. The first was a 20-yard pass from Tyler Stockstill and the second was a 10-yard pass from Carlos Wood.

“Raymond has some great athletes. We were physical with them,” King said. “We were much improved from the previous scrimmage. Much better up front. I was impressed with the offensive line play. I thought we were pretty physical.”

In its second game of the day, ACCS and the Northpoint Christian Trojans, a private school from Southaven and a member of the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA), played to a 7-7 tie.

Stockstill threw a 79-yard touchdown pass to Parker Rymer and the extra point was good by Bryan Buong.

“I thought we held our own against Northpoint. We got a little tired at the end,” King said.

Overall, King said his team made some good strides but there were some areas that either need to be cleaned up or improved.

“We still turned the ball over a couple of times, which we can’t have. Overall, the defensive play was ok. The offensive line, our assignments were better. But we’ve got to improve our discipline at certain areas. We got a little tired and a little out of control,” King said.

As for how Stockstill and Wood did under center, King said that both them had some good moments. And there was something else that pleased the Rebels’ head coach — a lack of penalties.

“We didn’t have a lot of penalties, but at the end of the day we want to have all that cleaned up,” King said. “We’re going to watch the film hard. Senior leadership was much better today, and that’s what we’ve got to have.”

ACCS opens up its season at 7 p.m. Friday at Wilkinson County Christian Academy.

Natchez High at Hazlehurst Jamboree

HAZLEHURST — The Natchez High Bulldogs lost to the defending Class 3A South State champion Hazlehurst Indians 16-6 Friday afternoon at the Hazlehurst High School Jamboree.

Head coach Melvin Pete was happy to see his team compete.

“That was the number one thing,” Pete said.

Pete said freshman quarterback Chris Scott was poised and handled the situation well for his first start.

Natchez running back John Ferguson scored the only touchdown for the Bulldogs on a 25-yard scamper.

“We played pretty good on both sides of the ball, but we have to clean some things up,” Pete said. “We fumbled on a bad quarterback/center exchange that allowed them to separate the score a little more.”

Natchez High plays host to Class 3A South State runner-up Wilkinson County High School Friday at 7 p.m.
