Burial will follow at the Selstown Cemetery in Stanton under the direction of Robert D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today and from noon until service time Sunday, both at the church.

Rev. Irving was born July 5, 1919, the son of the Rev. M.J. Irving and Josephine Plummer.

He attended school in Mississippi and was a self-employed logger. He later was employed by Jones Lumber Company.

Rev. Irving served a number of years as ground keeper for the Greater Mount Bethel Baptist Church, as well as the cemetery, until his health failed. In 1961, he was united in holy matrimony to Mildred Scott. To this union, six children were born.

Rev. Irving confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Cedar Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. Elijah Minor. He remained faithful at Cedar Grove (Mount Bethel Baptist Church) and became an usher.

God had other plans for his life and chose him to bring His word. He preached the word in fervency, boldness and conviction. Loving the Lord as his Savior, propelled him to seek more awareness of God’s word. He served faithfully as an associate minister of Greater Mount Bethel until he was called home. Rev. Irving was adamant about visiting the sick and shut-in, winning the lost to Christ and exemplifying love for the family and the brethren.

On Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014, God called Rev. Irving from labor to reward.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Lillie K. Irving; two sons, Charles Davis Sr. and Charles Beamer; five brothers, Albert Thompson, Joshua Thompson, James White, Albert Irving and Johnny Irving; and one sister, Charlotte Madison.
