Caring nature highlight of the week

Our community’s caring nature shined brightly last week through generous donations and extraordinary volunteers.

Before we prepare for the week ahead, let’s take a look back at some of the highlights from last week:

• A family who lost everything in a house fire received a generous donation of a new house from a donor who wished to remain anonymous. The fire claimed the family’s pets, life savings and memories. The generous act of kindness by the donor left family members speechless but grateful. We thank the donor for his gift and all the local residents that reached out to the family with support.

• Katherine Fontenot has volunteered every week for the last four years at Magnolia Village Assisted Living calling bingo for the residents. Having been with her mother through the last years of her life, the Natchez resident knows any time spent with the elderly can go a long way. We thank Fontenot for her commitment to the community.

• DeCameron Combs showed so much leadership potential this summer at a camp for young burn survivors that the Natchez native was selected to represent the state at a similar camp in Washington, D.C. The eighth-grade student was burned during a fire in 2007, and camp counselors said he used his experience to encourage younger campers to participate in activities. We congratulate Combs on being selected to represent our state and community.

The outstanding qualities and characteristics of our community members never cease to amaze us, and we hope to share even more of those stories as we start another week in the Miss-Lou.
