BROOKHAVEN — Because of hte weather Monday, Adams County Christian School was the only local softball team that was able to get any action in on the diamond, and the Rebels made it count.
The MAIS District 5-AA game between the Adams County Christian School Lady Rebels and the Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougars wenton as scheduled, and ACCS’ Rick Fife temporarily coached the Lady Rebels Monday instead of Forrest Foster.
Brooke Runnels allowed just six hits and struck out seven batters in a complete game performance while Breanna Henson and Ashleigh Williams hit home runs to lead ACCS to a 9-1 win over Brookhaven Academy.
The Lady Rebels gave Runnels all the run support she needed in the top of the first inning when they put up three runs. As for the Lady Cougars, well, they were kept off balance by Runnels’ pitches and were not able to get a run across home plate until the bottom of the seventh inning.
“I thought that Brooke pitched a real good game. She was in the zone,” Fife said. “Defense played well. We were able to be fundamentally sound.”
ACCS expanded its lead just one inning later with three runs in the top of the second inning for a 6-0 lead. Williams put the Lady Rebels up 7-0 with a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning and Henson had a solo shot of her own in the top of the fifth to help them go ahead 9-0.
Both Henson and Williams went 2-for-3 while Kylie Powell and Lexie Emanuel each were 2-for-3 and Jordan Petty had a double.
“On the offensive side, we did a lot of good things well, especially situational hitting,” Fife said. “It was definitely a team victory.”
The Lady Rebels (N/A, 1-2) will play today’s home games against Tensas Academy at 5:30 and 7 p.m.
