WCCA falls short, 13-12

FRANKLINTON, La. — Connor McCain accounted for both of Bowling Green School’s touchdowns, including the game-winner nearly midway through the third quarter as the Buccaneers rallied to defeat the Wilkinson County Christian Academy Rams 13-12 Friday night.
McCain had a 50-yard touchdown pass from Brady Goings with 6:12 to go in the second quarter before WCCA responded with a 9-yard touchdown pass from Justin Prevost to Colton Nettles with 2:02 left until halftime.
McCain scored on a 12-yard run with 6:31 remaining in the third quarter, but the extra point was blocked, leaving the score at 13-12. However, the Rams were unable to mount a scoring drive in the final quarter and a half.
Mason Contine scored on a 3-yard run at the 9:00 mark of the second quarter — WCCA’s first lead of the season.
How evenly matched was this game? Both teams were nearly identical in first downs (11 for Bowling Green, 10 for WCCA), total yards (238 to 233 in favor of the Buccaneers) and turnovers (both teams had three of them.
Prevost completed 5 of 12 passes for 121 yards with Nettles catching four of those passes for 108 yards. Rodney Boyd was the Rams’ leading rusher with 40 yards on 16 carries.
WCCA (0-3) will be on the road next week when it plays at Oak Forest Academy at 7 p.m. Friday.
