TALLULAH, La. — Tallulah Academy pitcher Cydney Westmorland had a solid performance on the mound as the Lady Trojans defeated the Trinity Episcopal Lady Saints 7-1 Monday afternoon in MAIS District 7-A action.
Westmoreland held Trinity Episcopal to just three hits in the five-inning game that was called due to the time limit.
She got the run support she needed courtesy of a five-run rally in the bottom of the second inning that broke a 1-1 tie.
“On our end, we had seven strikeouts. When you can’t put the ball in play, you can’t have any base runners,” Lady Saints head coach Miranda Smith said.
Smith added that the Lady Trojans took advantage of a couple of hit batters, a couple of walks and timely hitting in their half of the second inning that gave them the lead for good.
The Lady Saints ended up issuing 10 walks for the game.
“When you put that many batters on base, you cannot win any games,” Smith said. Michaela Hutchins was charged with the loss.
Even though Trinity committed four errors, only one occurred in the bottom of the second.
Smith said that the team’s defense was the only positive thing to come out of the game.
“Those errors didn’t cost us the game. They came in different innings. But we (did turn) three double plays,” Smith said.
Sloane Young had two of the Lady Saints’ three hits, going 2-for-3 with a double.
