Saints facing veteran Porter’s Chapel Friday

NATCHEZ — Trinity head coach Zach Rogel isn’t letting his team become overzealous over their first victory.
Rogel has higher expectations, which he hopes his team reflects.
“That has to happen on a weekly basis,” said Rogel, who acknowledged he was happy to see his team be rewarded with a 20-7 victory against Central Private Friday night.
Rogel and the Saints’ attention have now turned to Porter’s Chapel Academy, who is 1-2 on the year and plays host to the Saints Friday.
Porter’s Chapel is a veteran team, posing nine seniors that contribute on offense and defense. The Eagles’ experience concerns Rogel.
“It’s hard to stack up against seniors, especially since we’re a sophomore team,” Rogel said.
Scheme-wise, Porter’s Chapel presents a similar offensive look as the Saints. The Eagles, like Trinity, operates their offense from the spread and have a solid backfield that run the ball well.
“Logan Pickering runs hard and gets north and south quick,” Rogel said. “Their recievers (Eric Jackson and Javontae Frye) are tough to stop on the outside.”
Porter’s Chapel will have to find a way to stop Trinity quarterback Kevontaye Caston from scoring. Scoring on passes, rushes, returns and interception returns, Caston has reached pay dirt nine times this season.
“We ask a lot of him,” said Rogel about his tenth grade quarterback. “He’s accepted the challenge, and everything with him is always yes sir and no sir.”
Rogel said if his team goes out Friday night and plays its best brand of football, the Saints should escape Porter’s Chapel with another victory.
