NATCHEZ — Services for Thomas Alton “Blackie” Williams, 66, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2014, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at noon today at Assumption Catholic Church with the Rev. David O’Connor officiating.
Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time today at the church.
Mr. Williams was born Oct. 2, 1947, in Natchez, the son of John Walton Williams and Hazel Christine Bullock Williams.
Tommy was a decorated veteran who served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a Vietnam vet, having served during the Tet Offensive of 1968, as a military police. He was active for a number of years in the VFW, serving in a number of capacities.
Tommy was recognized in 1996 as an “Unsung Hero” by The Natchez Democrat. He was a true veteran’s advocate. He was a member of Assumption Catholic Church.
Tommy retired from International Paper Company with 30 years of service and was also an employee of JCI for five years and Giles Island for four years.
Tommy was an avid hunter and fisherman.
His wife, son and family will remember Tommy as a loving husband, father, and son. Tommy was married to Pat for 46 years, having met as high school sweethearts.
He was preceded in death by his mother and one sister, Rebecca Jean Mahl.
Survivors include his wife, Pat Williams; one son, David Anthony Williams of Natchez; his father of Natchez; two sisters, Kaffy Ann Wedgeworth and husband, Charles, and Pamela Sue Price, all of Natchez; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Bubba May, Justin May, Robert Lewis, Bob Breazeale, Steve Burkett and Brandon Perkins.
