NATCHEZ — Cheryll Marsaw’s pain was one she felt could only be relieved by the power of the Holy Spirit.
As the Natchez resident stood at the front of Abundant Life Church, Marsaw prepared to receive that power through the healing hands of the Rev. Sign Fireman.
“The holy ghost comes out of me and flows into you and cures you,” Fireman whispered into Marsaw’s ear.
He lifted his hand up to Marsaw’s face, but did not touch her. Her legs began to wobble, and she momentarily struggled for balance. She straightened back up, opened her eyes and smiled at Fireman, relieved.
“Give it up for the power of Jesus,” Fireman said to the congregation.
Not a single person in the crowd was left sitting down as they applaud.
Whatever anyone may say about the validity of the miracles does not matter. In Abundant Life from Sept. 5 to 9, there was optimism.
Marsaw has experienced pain in her body since she was 18. It was not until she was 27 that the pain was diagnosed as gout. The pain travels all around her body. While she lives a normal life, the discomfort is a constant strain.
“I believe I received healing today,” she said, “For the first time in a long time, I feel no pain in my feet and hands.”
Throughout the five days of miracle and revival sessions, parishioners were inspired by Fireman’s words and his passion.
“He has taught the word in ways that I would never have thought about,” said Derric Mobley, a parishioner of the church.
Abundant Life pastor John Collard met Fireman in Boston at a conference and thought it would be good to have him visit Natchez.
“We need revival in Natchez and if people are learning to live life under God, that is a start,” he said.
Fireman is in the midst of spiritual crusade all around the world. He started more than 200 churches spanning the globe and 60 in his native Lagos, Nigeria.
He preaches about the healing power of the Holy Spirit.
Hector Luna mirrored the feelings of Marsaw.
He came to the front of the church seeking healing of an eye problem that he was told by doctors is only getting worse.
“When he touched my eyes, I felt a feeling I had never felt before surge through my body, at first I felt scared,” he said. “But then after hearing Dr. Fireman’s voice, I felt only hope that my eye would be healed.”
