NATCHEZ — A celebration of the life of Aimee “Mimi” Brown DuPré, 90, of Natchez, who died peacefully Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2014, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Episcopal Church with the Rev. C.J. Meaders officiating.
Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at Kuehnle Hall.
Mimi was born June 26, 1924, in Natchez, the daughter of Frederick Davis and Marian Barkley Brown Jr.
She married Charles W. DuPré Sr., Jan. 12, 1946. Mimi and her husband were very active in supporting the Pilgrimage Garden Club and other projects for preservation of Natchez tourism and architecture.
Mimi was a life time member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a very active board member for the Natchez Cemetery Association and the Pilgrimage Garden Club. She was queen of the Natchez Pilgrimage in 1942.
Mimi was also a participant in Trinity Episcopal Church, National Society of Colonial Dames, Garden Club of America, Pilgrimage Historical Association, and the Antique Forum Board.
Interesting note, she will be buried on a piece of ground her father played on as a child and later sold to the Natchez Cemetery for expansion called Brown’s Final Addition.
Mimi and Charles Sr. were regulars in sharing both history and traditions of the antebellum homes of Natchez and, of course, having fun with friends and eating the delicious local cuisine. She was a graduate of Natchez High School, attended Sophie Newcomb in New Orleans and University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Mimi was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. DuPré Sr., in March 2008.
Survivors include three loving children, Mimi Abbott and husband, Hirschel, of New Orleans, Charles Jr. and wife, Cathy, of Knoxville, Tenn., and Frederick and wife, Janet, of Houston; four beloved grandchildren, Barkley Laing and husband, Chris, of Charlottesville, Va., Sydney DuPré and Shelby DuPré, both of Houston, and Chip Abbott and wife, Amelia, of Charlotte, N.C.; and five great-grandchildren, Christopher, Marion and Mac Laing and Marjorie and husband, Jorie, and Wilson Abbott.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Trinity Episcopal Church or Trinity Day School.
