Trinity lets go of basketball coach

Edwin White will not be Trinity Episcopal Day School’s basketball coach this season.

Athletic director and head football coach Zach Rogel said White’s firing came as a result of Trinity wanting to keep its staff in-house.

“White didn’t do anything wrong, or anything like that,” Rogel said. “It wasn’t a bad breakup at all, it just made sense from a logistical standpoint.”

The decision to let White go stemmed from Rogel and defensive coordinator Chris Bunio wanting to coach basketball.

Since both are already full-time employees, Rogel said it made more sense for Bunio and himself to head up the basketball program.

“We have a good rapport with the kids already, and we’ll be around the games anyway,” Rogel said.

Rogel and Bunio will takeover full basketball duties once football season is over.

White led the Saints to a 22-0 regular season record last year, which included an appearance in the MAIS Overall Tournament.

White served as an assistant boys coach at Ferriday High School before accepting a role as head girls’ coach at Wilkinson County for 10 years. Before becoming Trinity’s head coach two years ago, White served as Huntington High School’s last boys’ head coach.
