WCCA suffers first district loss against Central Private Rebels

After defeating Porter’s Chapel and starting off 1-0 in district, Wilkinson County Christian Academy suffered its first district defeat, falling to Central Private 34-18.
Central Private built a large first half lead that proved insurmountable in the second half.
The Rebels scored first on a Johnny Duncan 3-yard run, and added another score one minute later on a 38-yard touchdown run by Trenton Guay. WCCA’s Rodney Boyd answered on the ensuing possession, scoring on a 75-yard run. However, a 77-yard kickoff return by Central Private’s Austin Slater on the ensuing kickoff gave Central Private a 20-6 lead after the first quarter.
The second quarter was all Central Private. Duncan added another 3-yard score, and Guay connected with Landon Bryson on a 6-yard pass with 3:46 left to play in the second. The score gave Central Private a commanding 34-6 lead heading into halftime.
WCCA didn’t go down without a fight, though, as the Rams scored on a Mason Contine 17-yard run in the third. The Rams added another score in the fourth on a 77-yard run by Boyd with 6:54 left remaining in the game. The Rams couldn’t muster up any more points.
With the loss, WCCA is now 1-5, while Central Private is no 2-5 on the season. WCCA will travel to Natchez to take on Trinity Episcopal Day School Friday.
