FERRIDAY — A Ferriday police officer was injured in a traffic collision Monday.

Ferriday Police Chief Derrick Freeman said Sgt. John Smith was on duty in a Ferriday police car Monday afternoon when Charles C. Stutson failed to yield at a stop sign at the corner of Florida Avenue and E.E. Wallace Boulevard.

The 2008 Mitsubishi PKU Stutson was driving struck Smith’s police vehicle, Freeman said.

Smith suffered broken bones in his leg and foot as a result of the collision, Freeman said, and was taken to an Alexandria-area hospital for treatment.

Stutson was taken to Riverland Medical Center for treatment, Freeman said.

The Louisiana State Police investigated the collision.

An LSP spokesman said Stutson was cited for failure to yield at a stop sign and no seat belt.

Freeman said he did not know Smith’s status Tuesday evening.
