NATCHEZ — Graveside services for Mittie Lancaster Schiele, 81, of Ferriday, who died Monday, Sept. 29, 2014, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Natchez City Cemetery with the Rev. Clyde Ray Webber officiating.

A memorial service will follow at noon at the First Presbyterian Church of Ferriday.

Arrangements are under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday.

Mrs. Schiele was born Nov. 7, 1932, in Ferriday, the daughter of James Otto Lancaster and Ruth Gillespie Lancaster.

She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ferriday where she sang in the choir.

Mittie loved playing tennis and bridge with her circle of lifelong friends. She was a fixture at all of her grandchildren’s activities and affectionately known by all as “M.”

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, C.J. “Brer” Schiele; three brothers, James Otto Lancaster Jr., Buddy Lancaster and Dr. Joe Lancaster; one sister, Jane Lancaster; an infant brother, John Bruce Lancaster; and one sister-in-law, Shirley Lancaster.

Survivors include three daughters, Rebecca McGehee and husband, Bill, of Natchez, Janet Vaught and husband, Gerald, and Lynne Ashmore and husband, Mitch, all of Ferriday; one son, Ed Schiele and wife, Linda, of Monroe, La.; one sister, Margie Wood and husband, Jimmy, of Tallulah, La.; two sisters-in-law, Betty Lancaster of Baton Rouge and Jimmie Lancaster of Ferriday; four grandsons, Dr. Chad Vaught and wife, Emma, William McGehee and wife, Cammy, Jake Schiele and Sam Schiele; six granddaughters, Lindsey Richardson and husband, Mack, Dr. Anna Catesby Yant and husband, Trey, Sarah Ketchings and husband, Walt, Mollye Ashmore, Abbey Ashmore and Alex Schiele; and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Chad Vaught, William McGehee, Jake Schiele, Sam Schiele, Walt Ketchings and Mack Richardson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Ward, Mitch Ashmore, Bill McGehee and Gerald Vaught.

Special thanks to her sitters, Annette Campbell, Elaine White, Catherine Green, Pearl Atkins, Annette Garrison and Lakeisha Mitchell.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Ferriday, Concordia Parish Library or a charity of choice.
