WESSON — The Wesson High School Cobras put an end to Jefferson County High School’s four-game winning streak with a stunning 33-16 win over the Tigers Friday night in an MHSAA Division 7-3A game.

Wesson (4-5, 2-1), which is in just its second season in Class 3A after being in Class 2A for well over a decade, outscored a good Jefferson County team 19-8 in the second half after leading 14-8 at halftime.

The Cobras’ defense came ready to play, making it tough for Tigers quarterback Rashard Brown to throw the ball and running back Arthur Norton to get on track.

The loss dropped the Tigers to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in division play. And that also makes next Friday night’s game against Hazlehurst even bigger.

Jefferson County will play host to the Indians with kickoff at 7 p.m.
