NATCHEZ — Services for Ruby L. Reed, 78, of Natchez, who died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2014, in Natchez, will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Greater Macedonia Baptist Church.

Burial will follow at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 5:45 p.m. today, with a celebration of life wake service at 6 p.m. at the funeral home and from 10:30 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.

Mrs. Reed was born Feb. 4, 1936, in Meadville, the daughter of Tom and Ida Nelson Hickingbottom. She attended Meadville school.

Ruby was retired from the Ramada Inn. She was a member of the Greater Macedonia Baptist Church.

Ruby enjoyed cutting grass and shopping.

Mrs. Reed was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Adolph Reed; three sisters, Lula McPhail, Sadie Weatherby and Fay Middleton; five brothers, Kenneth, Joe Louis, James, Louie and Henry Hickingbottom.

Survivors include two sons, Allen Reed of Las Vegas and Adolph Reed of Long View, Texas; one daughter, Joyce N. Griffin and husband, Franklin; one stepdaughter, Sonia Davis; one goddaughter, Tiffanie Woods, all of Natchez; two brothers, Elmo Hickingbottom and wife, Willie Mae, of Indianola and Robert Hickingbottom of Jackson; three sisters, Guynell Hickingbottom of Meadville, Joan Frye of Atlanta and Garyl Echoles of East Chicago, Ind.; five grandchildren, Clarence Allen McQuarters, Brandon Allen Reed, Joseph Reed, all of Las Vegas, Jeremy and Erica Reed, both of Mesquite, Texas; five great-grandchildren; two special friends, Clarence Edward McQuarters and Charlie “Booney” Harper; and other relatives and friends.
