The Block High School Bears finally picked up their first win of the 2014 season as they held on for a 12-6 win over the Bossier High School Bearkats Friday night.
“We started out by forcing a turnover and we scored off that. Then we forced a punt, and we scored again and jumped out to a 12-0 lead,” Block head coach Benny Vault said.
Taylor Perron-Krause and Kendrick Curry returned to the lineup for Block. However, the Bears played some sloppy ball at times and that kept Bossier in it.
“We might have had eight fumbles ourselves,” Vault said. “My center has a broken hand. He can’t get a good grip on the ball. The center-quarterback exchange was not good.”
However, the defense more than made up for the inconsistencies and turnovers caused by the offense, allowing the Bearkats to get into the end zone just once.
“Defense played well. We caused some turnovers. The defensive line needs to get better. We not as physical as we need to be,” Vault said. “We’re still not playing the type of ball we need to be playing.”
Block (1-4) will travel to Natchitoches, La. to take on St. Mary’s High School in the LHSAA District 3-1A opener next Thursday with kickoff at 7 p.m.
