Jefferson County celebrates 28-13 homecoming win

Arthur Norton had 27 carries for 131 yards and scored all four touchdowns for Jefferson County High School as the host Tigers celebrated homecoming with a 28-13 win over the Crystal Springs High School Tigers Friday night in the MHSAA Division 7-3A opener for both teams.
Norton had a pair of 5-yard touchdown runs – one early in the game, the other one late – to go with scoring runs of eight and two yards, respectively, in the second quarter. He also had a pair of two-point conversion runs in the second quarter.
Terreunta Johnson’s 8-yard touchdown run with 5:53 to go in the second quarter cut Jefferson County’s lead to 14-7, but Norton’s 2-yard TD run and two-point conversion run with just 13 seconds to go until halftime gave the host Tigers a 22-7 halftime lead.
The visiting Tigers from Crystal Springs made it a one-possession game again on Jeriko Morris’s 1-yard touchdown run with 7:47 left in the third quarter, but Norton found the end zone on his second 5-yard scoring run with 1:16 remaining in that same quarter.
Rashard Brown had a solid night at quarterback, going 5-for-9 passing for 54 yards with no interceptions.
Rasheem Carter and Tyjuan Cameron each had an interception to lead Jefferson County’s defense.
Jefferson County (4-2, 1-0) plays at Wilkinson County next Friday with kickoff at 7 p.m.
