NATCHEZ — Funeral services for Albert David Starr Jr., 60, of Pass Christian and formerly of Natchez, who died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014, at Select Specialty Hospital in Gulfport, will be 11 a.m. Monday at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Nance Hixon officiating.

Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery at a later date.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. Monday until time of services at the funeral home.

Mr. Starr was born Oct. 18, 1953 in Port Arthur, Texas, the son of Albert David Starr. Sr. and Malva McCurley Starr. Mr Starr served nine years active army in Panama and Germany. At Camp Shelby in Hattiesburg, he served as an instructor in the Primary Leadership Development Course. Mr. Starr also served as liaison to National Guard units that were at Fort Drum, N.Y., Fort Carson, Colo., and Fort Stewart, Ga. He was posted at Fort Ord, Calif., Fort Hood, Texas, Fort Drum, N.Y., Fort Carson, Colo., and Fort Stewart, Ga., among others. He retired as a master sergeant after serving his country for 30 years.

Mr. Starr was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents, Eugene and Malva McCurley and J.O. and Sallie Starr.

Survivors include his mother, Malva Starr McCalip of Natchez; one brother, Michael Omar and wife Ann Seligmon Starr of New York City and a number of cousins.

Honorary pallbearers will be D.D. Sumrall, Dwight Hammack, Bob Cortelyou and Jerry Percifield.

Memorial donations may be made to the Natchez-Adams Humane Society or Grace United Methodist Church.
