Rodney Boyd could not be slowed down by Acadiana Home School’s defense as he ran through the Commandos to the tune of 285 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries as the Wilkinson County Christian Academy Rams pulled away for a 61-34 win Friday night.
Boyd helped spark a rushing attack for WCCA that tallied 540 yards on 63 total carries. Caleb Poole added 191 yards and one touchdown on 24 carries. Quarterback Hutch Holden added a pair of touchdown runs of his own.
What kept Acadiana Home School in the game was the duo of quarterback C.J. Melancon and running back/athlete Colin St. Julien. The two combined for four touchdowns through three quarters. St. Julien even added a 74-yard kickoff return for a touchdown that made it a 40-34 game with 11:35 left in the fourth quarter.
However, the Rams scored three touchdowns in the final 6:02 to pull away from a pesky Commandos team. First, Holden threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Hayden Patterson. Then, Patterson picked off a pass by Melancon and returned it 62 yards for a touchdown that now only gave the home team a 54-34 lead, but it also ended the visiting team’s attempted rally.
Cody Burgess scored on a 3-yard run with 52 second remaining and Sam Nicholas’s seventh extra point of game put the Rams over the 60-point mark.
