Youth keep swinging at Cathedral tennis tournament

NATCHEZ For the second consecutive year, several youth tennis players from throughout the area got to participate at the Cathedral Fall Festival Tennis Tournament held at Duncan Park.

And even though it was once again unseasonably warm on Sunday afternoon, the rain stayed away for the tennis courts, and the present and future of area tennis got the chance to display their talents and have fun at the same time.

A total of 17 teams competed in the adult/junior doubles tournament, which comprised of three different divisions. In the elementary division, the team of Joe and Joseph Garrity came in first place, and the team of Francis and Corey Pugh finished second. The duo of Anna Claire Ryan and Kathy Pourciau won the seventh- through ninth-grade division, while the team of Jessica Carter and Lessley Dooley was the runner-up.

The team of Mark and Betsy Iles ended up winning the 10th- through 12th-grade division, and the team of Donna Calloway and Marty Lewis was the runner-up.
