NATCHEZ — Natchez police arrested a man Wednesday night who allegedly threatened a woman and her grandfather at gunpoint.

George E. Byrd, 23, 1-B Ingram Circle, was arrested and charged with two counts of attempted armed robbery and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Natchez police said Byrd allegedly entered a Dale Court house Tuesday night and threatened a 21-year-old woman and her 87-year-old grandfather.

Byrd allegedly knocked on the door Tuesday night and forced his way into the house after the 21-year-old answered the door, Natchez Police Department detective Jerry Ford said.

After Byrd repeatedly demanded money from the woman, which she said she didn’t have, Byrd grabbed her and pointed a gun at the woman’s grandfather, Ford said.

Byrd apparently threatened to shoot the grandfather if the woman didn’t hand over her money.

Byrd eventually took the butt of the gun and hit the woman on the head before fleeing the scene empty handed.

Byrd was jailed Thursday night with no bond set.
