If Paul Guido plays today like he did Saturday morning at the 2014 Natchez Senior City Golf Championship, it will take a miracle for anyone to catch him.
Guido torched Duncan Park’s golf course during the first round to finish in the lead in the Senior Men’s (50-59) Division with a round of 9-under-par 62 — five shots ahead of ahead of not only second-place Greg Brooking, but also the person who is leading the Super Senior Men’s (60-69) Division, Pete Powell.
Guido started his round in style with an eagle on the par-4 1st hole as he chipped in from in front of the green. On one of the toughest holes on the course, the par-4 17th hole, Guido did the impossible as he holed out from 80 yards for his second eagle of the day. He also had six birdies, and the only hiccup of the round came on the par-3 13th hole, which he three-putted for bogey.
Guido and Brooking were the only players in the Senior Men’s division to shoot under par on Saturday. Dean Brown, currently in third place in that age group, was the only player to shoot even-par 71.
Trailing Powell in the Super Senior Men’s division in second place is K.G. Watkins, who is only two shots back after firing a 2-under-par 69. Those were the only two players in that division to had rounds under par. In third place is Ottey Crisman, who shot 3-over-par 74.
George Hude is in first place in the Legends Men’s (70+) Division after he had a round of 80. But there are some competitors who are right on his heels. Joe Brumfield is just one shot back of Hude after he shot an 81. And Cornelius Lewis is three shots back after he had a first-round score of 83.
Tee times for today’s final round will begin at 9 a.m.
