5:35 p.m.: An inmate who escaped from the Natchez Jail Sunday has been captured in Vidalia.
Officials with the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office and Vidalia Police Department responded to a tip that Edwin R. Miester Jr., 43, was hiding in a Camellia Street house in Vidalia.
The law enforcement officials found Miester hiding under the house at approximately 5:30 p.m. Miester is being held at the CPSO awaiting to be transported back to NPD.
Miester Jr. came up missing this morning when NPD jailers conducted a count of all inmates.
NPD detective Jerry Ford said Miester’s escape was not related to the escape of two inmates from the Adams County Jail Sunday. In that escape, two inmates ran from ACSO jailers and fled through the downtown area. One of those inmates, Dominique Williams, is still at large.
NATCHEZ — The Natchez Police Department is searching for an inmate who escaped from the Natchez Jail sometime Sunday evening.
Edwin R. Miester Jr., 43, came up missing this morning when NPD jailers conducted a count of all inmates, Lt. Craig Godbold said.
“We’re still trying to piece together how exactly he got out, because we think he had some help,” Godbold said. “There’s still some missing pieces in all of that, but we’re working to figure that out.”
Miester was arrested in September by the NPD for a contempt of court charge for default in payment for no driver’s license and driving under the influence first offense. But Godbold said the Adams County Sheriff’s Office has warrants issued for Miester on charges of armed robbery.
Godbold said NPD officials believe Miester, a white male, is in the Vidalia or Ferriday area.
Anyone with information on Miester’s whereabouts is encouraged to call NPD at 601-445-5565 or Crime Stoppers at 601-442-5000. Crime Stoppers offers a reward of up to $1,000 for tips leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect.
NPD detective Jerry Ford said Miester’s escape was not related to the escape of two inmates from the Adams County Jail Sunday. In that escape, two inmates ran from ACSO jailers and fled through the downtown area. One of those inmates, Dominique Williams, is still at large.
