JACKSON (AP) — The Mississippi Supreme Court declined Thursday to hear an appeal from a Natchez man seeking a new trial for shooting at an Adams County sheriff’s deputy in 2006.
Anthony Donnell Williams is serving a 30-year sentence.
In 2007, Williams pleaded guilty to aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and other charges. Williams wanted a new trial because of what he called a faulty indictment. A state judge denied the petition in 2009. The Appeals Court upheld the ruling in June.
Court records show Williams allegedly knocked down a deputy to the ground and tried to shoot him with a handgun, which misfired. Williams got into his car, led the deputies on a chase and was captured after deputies shot out a tire, according to the court record.
