NATCHEZ With nearly 500 absentee ballots already turned in by Monday afternoon, election officials are expecting voter turnout to be high today during Election Day.

“I’m hoping for 50 percent turnout,” Adams County Election Commissioner Larry Gardner said. “You’ll have some good weather, and really these local races are what are going to bring people out.”

Adams County Circuit Clerk Eddie Walker said his office received 494 absentee ballots as of the end of the day Monday.

“That’s almost 90 more than we did for the last election,” Walker said. “The absentee process went very smoothly this year, and we actually had an increase in Monday when a lot of those started coming in.”
