Block blows past LaSalle en route to playoffs

Taylor Perron-Krause and Raymond Plummer each had over 100 rushing yards to lead the Block High School Bears to a 42-15 win over the LaSalle High School Bears Friday night in a key LHSAA District 3-1A game for both teams.
With the win, Block (5-5, 4-1) will likely move up from its currently No. 12 spot in this week’s Class 1A power ratings. However, LaSalle (6-4, 2-3) will drop a few spots after going into this game at No. 11.
The Bears couldn’t keep stopping themselves in the first quarter and trailed LaSalle 7-0 at the end of the first quarter. But two touchdowns in the second quarter gave Block the lead at halftime and the momentum.
“We got some penalties and got behind the chains. We moved the ball, but we had too many penalties,” Block head coach Benny Vault Jr. said. “We had a punt blocked and that gave them a short field for their first touchdown. In the second quarter, we stayed with our blocks. We were a little more physical tonight.”
The second touchdown actually was through the air. Vyn’quez O’steen threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Dorian Bowman with 11 seconds left until halftime and Kendarius Jones ran in on the two-point conversion to give the Bears a 15-7 advantage.
“We threw the ball 15 times and had two touchdowns,” Vault said. “We had 70 or 80 passing yards. We completed six of (those 15 passes).”
Vault also had high praise for the defense, which forced four turnovers and held LaSalle in check after the first quarter.
“I challenged them. Up front, we had a couple of interceptions and we forced a couple of fumbles. Defense played well tonight,” Vault said.
As to which team Block will host in the bi-district round of the LHSAA Class 1A Playoffs next week, that will not be known until this weekend.
