NATCHEZ — The glitz and glam of the fashion world came to Natchez Saturday.

The Zeta Delta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority hosted the biennial 2014 Miss Fashionetta Pageant at the Natchez City Auditorium.

The event gives locals a chance to see the world of high fashion and serves as the sorority’s biggest fundraiser.

“Even though we aren’t in New York or Chicago, we still want to know what is fashionable,” said Demetria Reed, president of the ZDT chapter of AKA sorority.

The evening showcased a wide variety of fashions from evening wear to business attire. Right before intermission was the surprise bathing suit section.

“That’s always a crowd favorite,” said Reed.

Proceeds from the night go to support scholarships that the sorority gives out throughout the school year to local students.

Reed sees the show as a way to bolster the local economy.

“We can take the fashions and styles that they show us and go out to local stores and buy similar and less expensive clothes that are still just as current and fresh,” she said.

Marlaysia Fleming, 8, was not at a loss of words about how much she enjoyed the show.

“It was great, great, great,” she said. “I want all of the clothes in my closet. Except in my size.”
