Monterey girls, Franklin County boys victorious

MONTEREY — Carli Scott led Monterey High School with a game-high 15 points as the Lady Wolves pulled away in the second quarter to take a 52-36 victory over the Kilbourne High School Lady Hawks Tuesday night.

A slow-paced first quarter ended with Monterey only up by two points on Kilbourne, 8-6. But in the second quarter, the Lady Wolves turned up the defensive pressure a few notches and that helped them outscore the Lady Hawks 16-5 for a 24-11 halftime advantage.

By the end of the third quarter, the Lady Hawks only managed to cut two points off the Lady Wolves’ lead and trailed 35-24. Monterey would regain its momentum in the fourth quarter as it put up 17 points while holding Kilbourne to 12 points.

Tiffany Weeks poured in nine points and Morgan Pecanty added seven points for Monterey. Kilbourne was led by Star Jones with 14 points.

The Lady Wolves (3-0) next plays at 6 p.m. Friday at Georgetown High School.

Franklin County boys 56, Amite County 44

MEADVILLE — Jalen Dogan led four Franklin County High School players in double figures with 14 points as the Bulldogs needed a big fourth quarter comeback to defeat the Amite County High School Trojans 56-44 Tuesday night.

Franklin County got off to a good start and led Amite County 16-11 after one quarter of play. However, the Trojans responded by outscoring the Bulldogs in each of the next two quarters to grab a 36-34 lead by the end of the third quarter.

But the Bulldogs got back on track on both ends of the court in the fourth quarter. They ended up scoring 22 points and limited the Trojans to a mere eight points.

Vincent Briggs added 11 points while both TriAnthony Hunt and Kel Covington had 10 points each for the Bulldogs.

Franklin County (2-0) plays host to North Pike High School at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Amite County girls 52, Franklin County 36

MEADVILLE — Fredricka Smith led Amite County with a game-high 19 points while Ronika Pool and Destiny Williams added 10 points each as the Lady Trojans defeated the Franklin County Lady Bulldogs 52-36 in a regular season contest Tuesday night.

Amite County controlled the pace of play in the first half and took a 24-15 lead into halftime. The Lady Trojans made sure that the Lady Bulldogs would not rally in the third quarter with a 19-12 advantage that gave the visiting team a commanding 43-17 lead in the quarter.

Brianta O’Quinn led Franklin County (1-1) with 10 points and Tadayla Hunt added six points in the loss.

The Lady Bulldogs will host North Pike at 6 p.m. Friday.
