NATCHEZ — Services for James “Sonny” Freeman Jones Sr., 76, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2014, at Crown Health and Rehabilitation in Natchez, will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Cannonsburg.
Burial will follow at the Mercy Seat Baptist Church Cemetery in Church Hill, under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.
A celebration of life wake-service will begin at 6:30 p.m., today followed by visitation from 7 to 8 p.m., both at the funeral home. Visitation will continue from 1:30 p.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Mr. Jones was born Jan. 16, 1937, in Natchez, the son of Wilson Jones and Laura Torrey.
He was a member of the Mercy Seat Baptist Church in Church Hill.
James was the owner of Jones Trucking Company Inc., and was a dutiful truck driver.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Luceille Donaldson and Luberta Bindon.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Elizabeth Jones; five children, Maxine Clay and husband, Ronnie, James F. Jones Jr. and wife, Cherrie, and Levandia Jones and wife, Darlene, all of Natchez, Vernita Green of Clinton and Anthony Jones of Russum; seven grandchildren, LaShana Collins and husband, Derek, Evelyn Jones, Anita Jones, Kyomi Jones, Levandia M. Jones and wife, Takeea, Shenaise Green and KeJuan Jones; six grandchildren; one sister, Vonney Johnson of Queens, N.Y.; and a number of other relatives and friends.
