FERRIDAY — Services for Edward “Nub” Martin, 83, of Ferriday, who died Monday, Nov. 17, 2014, at Southeast Louisiana War Veterans Home in Reserve, La., will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Evangel Temple Assembly of God with the Rev. Gay Bradford and the Rev. Bo Swilley officiating.
Burial will follow at the Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the church.
Mr. Martin was born March 31, 1931, in Extension, La., the son of Edward and Alice Martin.
He was a member of Evangel Temple Assembly of God for more than 50 years where he served as a board member, sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and helped in anyway needed at the church.
Mr. Martin was a devout Christian who was known for his witness and testimony to all he came in contact with. God and family were the two most important aspects of his life. Nub was a role model to his family and community.
He was an avid outdoorsman with a love for hunting and fishing, but most of all for the fellowship with friends and strangers. Even in his final years at the veterans home, he brought a smile to everyone he came in contact with.
Mr. Martin also proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Dianne Buckles and Cathy Freeman; seven brothers, Tom Martin, Willie Green, Jimmy Ukle, Ben Martin, Luke Martin, Clifford Martin and Ralph Martin; and seven sisters, Irene Sanders, Leta Green, Cressie Lee Berry, Etta Mae Swilley, Ruby Graves, Bessie Lincecum and Geneva Tarver.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Ernestine Martin; one son, Jacky Martin and wife, Angie, of Ferriday; two daughters, Renee Ferguson and husband, Randy, of Lucas, Texas and Susie Dean and Russell Huber Jr., of LaPlace, La.; one sister, Merlee Dale and husband, Leslie, of Denham Springs, La.; seven grandsons, Brad Martin, Cory Martin, Spencer Dean, Clayton Dean, Paul Houghton, Tim Houghton and Greg Ferguson; four granddaughters, Cindy Coleman, Misty Brumfield, Erica Ferguson and Kristi Whitehead; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Brad Martin, Cory Martin, Spencer Dean, Clayton Dean, Paul Houghton, Tim Houghton, Greg Ferguson and Jody Starr.
Honorary pallbearers will be Russell Huber Jr., Steve Dean, Rayford Buckles, Randy Ferguson and Clif Starr.
