2 dead, 2 injured in fiery Monterey wreck

MONTEREY — Two Louisiana residents died Saturday following a fiery crash in Monterey that also left a Monterey man and an infant injured.
Louisiana State Police troopers responded to a two-vehicle wreck on Louisiana 565 south of Louisiana 129 at approximately 5:50 p.m.
The wreck involved a 2014 Dodge pickup driven by Johnny C. Warren, 66, of Monterey, and a 2000 Volkswagen Passat driven by Ernie E. Climer, 36, of Cheneyville, according to an LSP press release.
Warren was traveling southbound on Louisiana 565 when he attempted to turn left onto Kemps Landing Road.
According to the press release, Warren wound up in the northbound lane and collided with Climer, causing Climer’s vehicle to overturn and become fully engulfed in flames.
Warren was wearing his seat belt and received minor injures. A six-month-old female was a passenger in Warren’s vehicle. She also received minor injuries, and both were transported to Natchez Regional Medical Center.
Climer was trapped in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Warren removed Climer’s only passenger, Jeremy Chad Elliott, 36, of Trout, before the vehicle became engulfed in flames. Despite being removed from the vehicle, Elliott was pronounced dead at the scene.
Routine toxicology tests are pending, and the crash remains under investigation, according to the press release.
Warren was charged with failure to yield.
