VIDALIA — Services for Gardest Sewell January, 94, of Vidalia, who died Friday, Nov. 21, 2014, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Zion Baptist Church in Vidalia with the Rev. Johnny Elery officiating.

Burial will follow at the Natchez National Cemetery with her husband, Willie “Bill” January, under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home in Ferriday.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.

Mrs. January was born April 21, 1920, in Natchez, the daughter of Mose and Exerleaner Ware Sewell.

She was a retired educator.

Survivors include six stepchildren, Willie James Jr. and wife, Elvira, of Burlington, N.J., Mark A. James and wife, Irene, Daryl James and wife, Debra, all of Willingsboro, N.J., Russell James of Virginia Beach, Va., Beverly Boone and husband, Jesse, of Portsmouth, Va., and Cheryl Harris of Newport News, Va.; one sister, Audrey Knight of Natchez; two brothers, Lee Jasper Sewell and Earl Sewell, both of Chicago; two grandchildren, Lori James of Manhattan, N.Y., and Wilynda James of Philadelphia; and a number of other grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
